Digital substations taking benefit from HSR/PRP High Availability Ethernet and IEEE 1588 sub-microsecond synchronization is a reality world-wide.
The following picture was taken in September 2018 at Zona Norte 150 kV Substation in Montevideo Uruguay. It shows Controles S.A. Bay Control Units RTU194 provided with SoC-e SMARToem HSR/PRP/PTP module. As a result of this fully digitalization effort, the utility is achieving a fully automated operation supported by time-aware redundant networks.
